Beyond the residential accommodation described above, Romito can now offer facilities for al fresco summer events. This has been made possible by setting up the twin terraces to the West which command panoramic views towards Siena and often stupendous sunsets. Covered awnings have been installed to provide two additional areas each of approx 75 sq/m. Two linking gazebos offer performance, address and/or display space. These areas can accommodate gatherings from 10 to 60.
By contrast to commercial razzmatazz and glitz, Romito offers a low key, rural, idyll taking advantage of the famous Tuscan landscape with its’ epicurean delights of local gastronomy and wines. In addition there is easy access to a number of cities and towns famous for their Medieval and Renaissance, architecture, art and culture, which embody the essence of Italian history. Castles and cathedrals, galleries and museums dominate these urban centres. Abbeys and convents abound and are often converted for accommodation and restaurant facilities. Street markets and discounted, designer fashion outlets proliferate. Traditional crafts (cermamics and glassware, leatherwork and pottery, marble and wood carving) are available throughout the region. Finally the products of grapes, olives and cheeses can be obtained, as it were, at farm gates. Romito's own first pressed, virgin olive oil is also available.
Wedding gatherings, pre wedding activities (engagements, hen and stag parties) and other personal/anniversary celebrations are the obvious participants. In addition besides informal conference/seminar retreats, facilities can be set up to accommodate musical/theatrical performance, artistic/literary workshops and culinary/harvest festivals. Whilst Romito can provide any of these options as a central feature, there are a number of other attractions which surround the property.
Walkers (and indeed hunters) will relish the surrounding woodlands, teeming with game (wild boar, fallow deer, pheasant and pigeon) and other wildlife. Bird song is mesmorising. Further afield to the North are the hills and valleys of Chianti with its well known vineyards and olive groves. Whilst to the South are the flat plains of the Creti with extensive views down to Mount Amiato, the tallest mountain in Tuscany. Bikers (pedal or motor) will thrive on the scenery whether on road or off road.
Nearby towns commence to the West with Siena (with it’s sublime Campo and Duomo) and moving clockwise embrace San Gimigniano, (of the many towers) Florence, (the Renaissance epicentre) Arezzo, (the start of the Piero Trail) Cortona, (a beautiful hillside settlement) Perugia, (famous university town), Montepulciano (a tree lined Medieval experience), Pienza (a quintessential Renaissance jewel) and finally Montalcino (the home of Brunello wines) all these within one hours drive of Romito. A further one hour takes one to the Livorno Coast and thereafter to Pisa (of the Leaning Tower), Lucca (an elegant, grey stone walled city), Bologna (with stunning arcaded centre), Urbino (the other end of the Piero Trail), Gubbio (a centre for ceramics), Spoletto (of the famous festival), Orvieto (with it's wonderful Duomo) and last but by no means least Rome itself (the Eternal City).
Accommodation can be provided at Romito (up to 12), 1km away Villa Stroncolli (up to 16), 2km away Borgo Monte Maggiore (up to 18) and beyond 5km Palazzuolo (a number of restored apartments) and 10km Gargonza (a restored hilltop village). All these have swimming pools and in addition there are facilities for tennis and horse riding nearby. Golf and Polo Clubs adorn the region. A balloon trip can be organised, providing a magical experience of Tuscany from the air.
Finally, catering can be arranged at Romito using very professional teams skilled in using local cusines and wines. In addition there are some 30 restaurants within 30 mins drive.
